I had fun running in this race, but I’d have to say that this was the hardest 5K I’ve been in yet. This course had a bunch of hills. The race starts off going down a hill and my only thought at the time was that I’d eventually have to come back up the hill to get to the finish. There was also a long hill just before the midpoint of the race. The race was also later in the morning and the temp was already much warmer than last week. It was pretty hot in the sun.
The last mile of the race was pretty much uphill and sunny. It was tough to fight through, but a good feeling to finish. I grabbed a water at the end and headed for the my car for the cool down walk.
Heading out Saturday morning for another 5K:
Now in its second year, this race is held to raise funds for Marshall Taylor, a fourth-grade student at St. Timothy’s in need of a kidney transplant.
Last year over 600 runners participated. The overall winner was Derek Fenton (16:07). The top female was Kristen Cheman (20:03).
Oh man it was cold. It’s the first race that I’ve run in with jogging pants and sweatshirt. I really can’t complain because I got my best 5K time at this race. My time was 27:06 with 8:44 minute miles. That beats my previous best time of 27:15 at the Apex Turkey Trot.
I’m really having some fun with these 5K races. I enjoyed the beginning of the St. Pattie’s day parade because I got to see Caroline skating with the other Carolina Rollergirls. Grae found us a green beer to drink while watching the parade. — What more could you ask for for post race fun?
This weather we’ve been having has been great. I’ve been getting in several good training runs and am looking forward to my first 5K of 2007 this weekend. My foot has been bothering me a little and last night at soccer I thought it was finally feeling better. Not the case when I woke up this morning. It was back to being sore and racquetball class didn’t help much. The good news is that the pain isn’t terrible. Usually when I get in a practice run it will only hurt for the first few minutes of the run. So, I’m going to train some more, work on losing some weight and see how I do Saturday.
