Apex Turkey Trot Race Results

Filed under: All Entries, Races — Zack @ 10:42 am

Caroline and I finished our turkey trot early this year. We competed in the Apex Turkey Trot last Saturday November 18th. It was just about perfect weather for running with the temperature around 44 degrees. I finished with a time of 27:15 and pace of 8:47 — Caroline finished with a time of 40:15 and a pace of 12:58.

Caroline had a disadvantage since she stepped in a very wet mud puddle. She ran with soggy a soggy shoe and sock. I also found the mud, but didn’t get wet.

It was pretty cool running a race that was so close to home. We walked over, checked in, and walked back home until it was time for the race to begin. It also made it nice to be able to leave after the race. Others who drove to the race were trapped in the park until the race was over since the parking lots were part of the course.

It was a fun start to our Saturday and I look forward to this race next November.

8th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run

Filed under: All Entries, Races — Zack @ 11:24 am

Looks like there is a run happening in the park near my home.  Caroline and I signed up for the 8th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Run at the Apex Community Park.  This should be fun because it’s an actual race in the same spot that I do a lot of my training runs.  The race is Saturday, November 18, 2006   10:00 am which may make for a great time of day for a race.

Today I am going to take a day to let my body recover a little.  I had the 10K run on Sunday and a soccer game last night, so I’m pretty sore today.

1 year of Running

Filed under: All Entries, Races — Zack @ 8:39 pm

Ran in the Old Reliable Run today and got a time of 53:48 which beats my time from last year of 57:47  My goal running the race this year was to beat the time I had last year and I succeeded in that.  I look forward to the coming year with the hope in completing a Marathon.

Annual WellCare Home Health Turkey Trot 4-Mile Trail Run & Walk

Filed under: All Entries, Races — Zack @ 4:16 pm

Looks like a fun run at the beach.  I’ve been wanting to try a trail run and this may work out for me.  We shall see:

The Annual WellCare Home Health Turkey Trot 4-Mile Trail Run & Walk is now registering participants for the November 25th event.
The Turkey Trot has become a popular event with over 200 participants involved last year. The Turkey Trot 4-Mile Run & Walk is held at the Carolina Beach State Park. The location of the race provides a bit of a different twist to the event. The race begins at the Carolina Beach State Park Marina with a paved surface for slightly less than one mile. Runners will be directed to turn right onto the trail. Miles 2-4 are relatively flat, well marked trails through pine forest, over wooden footbridges, and along the Cape Fear River. The scenic course offers views of the river, cypress ponds, and the famous Sugar Loaf sand dune. Footing is generally good with occasional sand, roots, and limb hazards. Water is available at the start and finish. The course has been designed and accurately measured by the Wilmington Roadrunners. There is a $20 entry fee for all those registered by November 15th. The entry fee includes and all-u-can eat hot breakfast buffet. The first 100 registrants are guaranteed a long sleeve heavyweight tee shirt. After November 15th, the registration fee will be $25. Additional breakfast tickets are available for $7 a person. Early registration and packet pick-up will be available the week before the Turkey Trot 4-Mile Trail Run & Walk. On Tuesday, November 21st from 4:00 until 7:00, you may register at Omega Sports in the Hanover Center located on Oleander Drive. Registrants will receive a 10% discount on most store items during this time. Registration will also be available at the Battleship 1/2 Marathon Race Exposition on Saturday, November 11th from 1:00pm until 5:30 pm at the Hilton Downtown.
Race day registration and packet pick-up will be available on Saturday, November 25th between 7:00 am and 8:30 am at Coastal Carolina Adventures in Carolina Beach. Registrants will receive a 10% discount on rentals, merchandise, and tours from the store. Since parking is limited at the Carolina Beach State Park Marina it is on a first come first serve basis. Overflow parking will be at Carolina Coastal Adventures and the Food Lion parking lot. Participants will be shuttled to the race start via passenger vans courtesy of the Elderhaus. Continuous shuttle service will also be provided from the race finish to the breakfast/awards ceremony and from the awards to the parking areas. Awards will be given to the first male and female finishers. They will receive two night oceanfront accommodations at the Golden Sands Hotel. Age group awards will recognize winner and runner-up in men’s and women’s categories as follows: 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+. Door prizes will also be drawn during breakfast and participants must be present to win. The WellCare Home Health Turkey Trot 4-Mile Trail Run & Walk is a non-profit event. All of the proceeds raised will benefit the Elderhaus, a non-profit United Way agency in Wilmington, NC serving the elderly and the less abled. The proceeds will also be used to provide home health care for the disadvantaged population of Southeastern North Carolina.
