Nike 5K Race Sunday

Filed under: All Entries, Races — Zack @ 3:54 pm

This sunday I Caroline and I are signed up for the Nike 5K race in Raleigh, NC. This is the 1st Annual George Williams Nike 5K race that starts at Saint Augustine’s College in downtown Raleigh.  This is one of the races in the Second Empire Grand Prix Series.  The Turkey Trot 8K on November 23 is the last race of this series.

Rock and Roll Half Marathon - Virginia Beach

Filed under: All Entries, Races — Zack @ 10:08 am

It pays to sign up early!  Last year I signed up a few months before the race and paid $95.  This year I just signed up and am paying only $45 for the race.  The Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach will be September 2, 2007 and I can’t wait!

Inside-Out Sports Classic 10K

Filed under: All Entries, Races — Zack @ 11:39 am

I was planning on running the Inside-Out Sports Classic 10K this weekend, but with the ECU Football game on Saturday and the race starting at 7:45am Sunday, I just don’t see it happening. I’m dissapointed in the timing since this race is part of the Second Empire Grand Prix, a series of five races in the RTP area that give awards based on points earned by participating in three of the five races.

Training this week has also been slow since I’ve been under the weather most of the week. I’ve mostly been walking in stead of running. I just have this cough that won’t seem to go away. I am excited about the Old Reliable Run next month. It’s too bad that race isn’t part of the Second Empire Grand Prix.

Minimal running over the weekend.

Filed under: All Entries, Training — Zack @ 11:42 am

I didn’t get in a training run over the past weekend.  I definately could have made the time, but simply didn’t.  I went to a wedding Saturday that included a rehersal dinner Friday night.  Also had ECU football Saturday night and Panthers football on Sunday.  The good news is that they both won.

I did try to make up for it Monday evening with a softball game and soccer game.  The other team didn’t show up in softball, so we spent that hour with some batting practice.  The soccer game I really tried to run hard and did work up a good sweat.  I’m pretty sore today from both games.  I’m going to try to get a run in tonight.

Nike Air Max 360 Running Shoe

Filed under: All Entries, Equipment — Zack @ 11:32 am

Heard good things about these shoes, but don’t know if it is worth the $160 price tag.  They are a very light shoe at less than 13 ounces.  All the foam support in this shoe is replaced by air unlike earlier air max that had part foam.

Nike describes the Air Max 360 as a milestone for runners, providing a full air cushioning system in place of foam — giving runners “360 degrees of Nike Air cushioning.” Because testing showed that foam compresses up to 40 percent after 300 miles, the 360’s Air Sole allows the shoe to perform as well on the 301st mile as it does on the first.

In addition, the 360 is also designed to be more flexible in the forefoot, to allow for a more natural range of motion and better correspond with pressure points in the foot — flex grooves on the sole allow for this. The shoe is tuned specifically for gender and shoe size for enhanced impact protection. A seamless sock liner helps eliminate abrasion and midfoot webbing loops provide a better fit.

Sunday’s Race

Filed under: All Entries, Races — Zack @ 8:36 am

Well, I have another 5K race under my belt.  Caroline Grae and I ran the Second Empire 5K.  The official results aren’t in yet, but I think my time was right around the 28 minute mark.  It was a great day to run with the temp around 73 and a nice breeze to keep cool.  This is a nice run around the capitol area of Raleigh up to the NCSU campus and back.  The only problem is that the race took place when the Panthers game was on, but I don’t think we missed much of the game.
